1. Collins' poem is a satire on the original poem. It's purpose is to show how ridiculous it is to compare people to inadament objects.
ReplyDelete6. Collins' reads the poem in a casual voice because he is taking the subject lightly and poking fun at the original poem.
4. Collins doesn't seem to mind that he is stealing somebody else's work. He does say that the first two lines are not his, however he doesn't give credit to the original author so I guess it is plagiarism.
1. Collin's poem is supposed to be about his beloved, but in a fictional way and not about someone who really exists. He's talking to his beloved to make fun of the poem he stole the first 2 lines from.
ReplyDelete2. The bread and the knife represent something that is religious which is given away by the next line, "the crystal goblet and the wine."
3. Collins chose to satirize the original poem because he talked about how its a common way of poetry to write about ones beloved by comparing them to things that could really have no meaning at all. So, in his poem he makes fun of that.
